Antioco Cruces and Luis G. Campa worked togeth in Mexico City between 1862 and 1877 when carte de visite were popular. They took portraits of people of the Mexican Empire of Maximilian and series of "tipos." At the United States Centennial International Exhibition in Philadelphia 1876 their series on "Mexican Popular Types" was awarded a bronze medal. In 1877 Antioco Cruces ceased to work with Campa and started his own firm "Cruces y Cía."
