The brothers, Paul Henry (French, 1848-1905) and Prosper Henry (French, 1849-1903), were astronomers at the Paris Observatory in 1872 took over a long running project to map the heavens with the aid of telescopes. They found that the complexity of the Milky Way required photography as human vision could not distinguish the stars with sufficient accuracy.
