Son of photographer James Anderson (1813-1877) who took over the studio in Piazza Fiume in Rome on the death of his father. He established a large business in providing photographic prints of works of art from Italian, Spanish and English museums. In 1960 the 40,000 plates made by three generations of the Anderson family were sold to the Istituto Italiano per la Collaborazione Culturale.
