Originally trained as an architect in Rotterdam before freelancing as a photographer. He has won prizes for documentary series on "The Underclass and Its Bosses: Crime & Punishment in Ukraine", "The Drunken Bride, Russia Unveiled", and the difficult "Interrogation" series which won the portrais category of World Press Photo (2012). He is a member of VII.
