A French photographer working in Mexico. He is especially remembered for his photographs of the Austrian Archduke Maximilian I who became Maximilian I of Mexico and was executed in the Cerro de las Campanas in Mexico on June 19, 1867 by the followers of Benito Juarez. He took a particularly gruesome series of photographs of the execution, the slain Maximilian, and the relics of the day including his blood stained shirt. Later he settled in Algeria.
