A Russian noble born in Switzerland who accompanied Grand Duke Constantine, son of Nicholas I, on a journey that lasted from October 1858 to July 1859. They travelled to from Nice, to Genoa, Naples, Palermo, Malta, Athens, Constantinople, and lastly Jerusalem. Amateur photographer De Rumine photographed their travels and described his travel in the Parisian journal La Gazette du Nord.

Gabriel de Rumine (1841-1871) was a Russian nobleman from St. Petersburg, living in Paris in the late 1850s. An amateur photographer of independent means, he established a state-of-the-art photography studio in Paris, and became a member of the Socie´te´ franc¸ais de photographie in 1858. He was also director of the short-lived La Gazette du Nord, a weekly periodical dedicated to promoting understanding between France and Russia. Rumine accompanied Grand Duke Constantine, son of Nicholas I, on a Mediterranean tour in 1858-1859 which included Greece, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, and the Holy Land. Although his photographic documentation of the trip was apparently extensive, the written account he published in La Gazette du Nord was not illustrated, nor did it mention his photographs.
