In 1932-1936 he designed the photomontages used as advertising by the Swiss National Tourist Office. He emigrated to the USA in 1937 and found work as a freelance designer and photographer for ‘Vogue‘ and ‘Harper‘s Bazaar‘.
The Herbert Matter Archive was acquired by Stanford University in 2005.
