German photographer who spent a lot of time in Mexico. He was a noted expedition photographer and photojournalist. He photographed the Mexican Revolution (1910-1917) and made the most famous photograph of the Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata. His book ‘Mexico Pintoresco‘ (1923) was translated into four languages. He also collaborated with Manuel Álvarez Bravo.
