A socially committed documentary photographer who has had mining communities as an ongoing theme throughout his work. His approach to portraiture is also intriguing with parallel shots revealing dual aspects of a single person - a shot of them at work and a shot at home.
A large reference collection of over 3,500 of his prints is now housed at the Center for Creative Photography (Tuscon, AZ, USA) and his archive is held by the Library of Congress, Prints & Photographs Division.
