Photograph of Mr Grant's house in Agra. Mr Grant worked for the Bengal Civil Service and was an accountant for the north-west provinces. The house was used as a temporary fortification during the 1857 Indian Mutiny. It is in the colonial style with two storeys and a stone balustrade. There is a garden in the foreground, where two Indian men are sitting on the grass and another is standing beside a cart.
This is one of a series of photographs of Agra by Dr John Murray which were published in a volume with accompanying captions by J Middleton. Murray was an East India Company doctor who used waxed-paper negatives to produce photographs of the architecture of Agra and the surrounding area.
