Photograph of Vishnu Pad and other temples at Benares. The photograph shows several temples, all with towers decorated with ornate stone carvings. In the foreground there are steps which lead down to the river, with people gathered in small groups.
 
This is one of a series of photographs from a published volume documenting the tour the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, made of India in 1875-76. This temple, now known as Kashi Vishwanath Temple, is on the banks of the River Ganges in the city of Benares. Benares is more commonly known as Varanasi and is of great religious significance to Hinduism.
