Contemporary half-leather volume (edges rubbed, piece missing at upper spine) with gilt-stamped spine. Paris, Libraire J.B. BailliÞre et fils, 1876. The frontispiece shows Dr. Duchenne with a patient (1 albumen print, 17,3 x 12,4 cm). With 9 plates each with 1 tableau of 16 physiognomic studies (albumen prints, ca. 13,5 x 10,5 cm). Mounted to card with photographer's name printed below the images on the mount. - Hirsch-H. II, 324. Second edition. Important document showing the use of photography to illustrate Duchenne's theories on mimic and physiognomy.
