This artwork was painted as an advert for the John Hancock Mutual Life Assurance Company, Boston, Massachusetts. In the 1960s it was included in a traveling art exhibition entitled "Faces of Freedom".
 
It has been published in John E. Cogoli, Photo-Offset Fundamentals (1960, McKnight & McKnith), p. 15, fig. 35.
