Photograph of Kandaharee Bagh, a house which was owned by the Maharaja of Bhurtpore and was usually the home of a senior civil servant. The house was used as a refugee for women and children during the 1857 mutiny. The colonial building has three storeys with a veranda and stone balustrades. It is surrounded by a rose garden.
This is one of a series of photographs of Agra by Dr John Murray which were published in a volume with accompanying captions by J Middleton. Murray was an East India Company doctor who used waxed-paper negatives to produce photographs of the architecture of Agra and the surrounding area.
