John Muir Wood owned this picture by Owen. There are many resemblances in the work of the two photographers. Both of them liked to explore the mysterious in nature. Many of Wood's photographs show elegant trees silhouetted against delicate light and possess the serenity of this snow scene by Owen. It is not known precisely how Wood came across this picture, but since the two men were working on paper, using the calotype process, they may have exchanged photographs through the new penny post.
