Photograph of the land where a memorial was constructed to commemorate the death of Napoléon, Prince Imperial of the French. A group of European and black men are gathered on an area of grassland. Most are holding tools and there are building materials on the ground around them. Napoléon, Prince Imperial of the French served with the British army during the Anglo-Zulu War. He was killed in a skirmish with Zulu fighters in June 1879. Shortly afterwards his godmother Queen Victoria ordered a memorial to be built on the site of his death.
