Photograph of the Taj Mahal. The building is in the Mughal architectural style and has a series of arched recesses and a large central dome surrounded by four smaller domes. The marble is decorated with plant motifs and passages from the Qur'an. The building is surrounded by a low wall, with a minaret visible to the far left. There is a raised platform with a fence in the foreground.
 
This is one of a series of photographs from a published volume documenting the tour the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, made of India in 1875-76. Included in the volume are a number of photographs of notable sites visited by the Prince.
