Signed in pencil "M.L. Grobet" on the mount, and dated 1980. Grobet made many images of the performing and private lives of these theatrical wrestling stars whose masks evoked traditional Mexican motifs. They constituted an extremely popular national merging of traditional and popular culture. See the fascinating book "Lucha Libre, Masked Superstars of Mexican Wrestling; Photographs by Lourdes Grobet," Mexico City and New York, 2005, where this is illustrated on p. 99.
