The latest novelty in mechanical toys is the American Songster, being a bird attached to an ingenious little instrument by which it is made to sing as clear as liquid as the best living song birds. It moves its bill and tail while singing.
They are made of metal, nickel plated, painted in a variety of bright colors, and are almost life-like imitations. The Horn Blower is a pocket handkerchief, with trumpet or horn attached, the largest end of which, being placed in the mouth and blown into, produces a noise that startles all who hear it, and elicits the advice of various remedies to cure the disease. It is a very amusing toy, and will be appreciated by those who like a good joke. Ives, Blakeslee & Co. are the manufacturers of these and numerous other attractive goods for the holidays."
