Photograph of the east face of Agra fort. The fort is in the Mughal architectural style and has high sandstone walls and a tower with tiers of arches and a chhatri, an elevated dome-shaped pavilion. The Yamuna River runs alongside the wall of the fort and there is a mimosa tree on the bank opposite. Two people are sitting under the shade of the tree and two Indian men are sitting on the edge of the wall nearby.
This is one of a series of photographs of Agra by Dr John Murray which were published in a volume with accompanying captions by J Middleton. Murray was an East India Company doctor who used waxed-paper negatives to produce photographs of the Mughal architecture of Agra and the surrounding area.
