Photograph of a ghat at Vrindavan by the Yamuna River. The ghat has two stone platforms, both with a chhatri, an elevated dome-shaped pavilion. Two men are sitting on the platform furthest from the camera. To the left is the Yamuna River, its water levels very high. The roots of an upturned palm tree can be seen in the water just beyond the ghat.
This is one of a series of photographs of Agra by Dr John Murray which were published in a volume with accompanying captions by J Middleton. Murray was an East India Company doctor who used waxed-paper negatives to produce photographs of the Mughal architecture of Agra and the surrounding area.
