1930
Man Ray endormi ("Sleeping Man Ray")

Gelatin silver print
Centre Georges Pompidou
(Jack Wilgus, 27 August 2025) Man Ray pictured himself asleep, his dreams visualized by the nude torso hanging above his head while his studio lamp stands guard. The torso is a cast made from Lee Miller’s body. I found two different sources for this image.

This image was part of the collection of Sir Roland Penrose, English artist and poet. Lee Miller married him in 1947, becoming Elizabeth “Lee” Miller, Lady Penrose (1907-1977). As mentioned the torso in this portrait of Man Ray is Lee Miller's.
