Lithograph Archives of Modern Conflict OR National Gallery of Canada This is the famous lithograph from the 1839 Daguerreian Manual when Daguerre was 52 years of age, about twenty years after the portrait of the artist as a young man.
The lithograph was produced by Lemercier, Bernard et Cie., Paris.
It was probably a flattering but fair likeness for such an important publication in his career.
Many of the later representations of Daguerre's face came from this very popular publication and its many reprints.
This illustration was included in the lecture "The many faces of Daguerre" presented by Matt Isenburg at the Daguerreian Society Symposium (2009).
