Photograph of the gateway to the Taj Mahal. The gate is in the Mughal architectural style and has a large archway at the centre flanked by two smaller decorative arches on either side. Above the main arch there is a row of small domes. There is an octagonal tower at either end of the gate and trees to either side. Two people are standing in the surrounding courtyard.

This is one of a series of photographs from a published volume documenting the tour the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, made of India in 1875-76. Included in the volume are a number of photographs of notable sites visited by the Prince.

Presented to Alexandra, Princess of Wales by her husband the Prince of Wales at Christmas 1876
