Charles Fontayne and William S. Porter are particularly noted for a panorama of eight 6.5 x 8.25 inch Daguerreotype plates taken in September 1848 of the waterfront at Cincinnati. The view originally entitled Daguerreotype View of Cincinnati. Taken from Newport, Ky." and now generally known as The Cincinnati Panorama is an outstanding example of early photography. Conservation work at the George Eastman House (GEH) in Rochester, New York in 2006-2007 using 100 times magnification revealed previously unseen details including the time of 1:55 pm on the clock tower of the Second Presbyterian Church.
