Worked in partnership with Baron Raimund von Stillfried und Rathenitz from 1875 onwards in Japan. First using the name "Stillfried & Andersen" and later changing it to the "Japan Photographic Association". In 1877 they bought the plates and equipment of Felice Beato. In 1878 the partnership with Stillfried dissolved and Andersen continued, later selling the business to Franz, the younger brother of Baron Raimund von Stillfried.
