| 18. | ![]() | Roshon (Lebanon, Pa) n.d. Bakery advertising lady Cabinet card Private collection of Robert Harshorn Shimshak Be-Hold, 31 January 2012, Session 2, Lot 128 There is a wonderful genre of cabinet cards in which local ladies were dressed up with objects from a certain trade to advertise their wares. This is one for a bakery, (though curiously it isn't named. ) The woman holds a cake and has a cake or loaf of bread on her head. Her dress is adorned with donuts and cookies, and most surprising-pretzels. This is from an area of Pennsylvania still known for its pretzels. The name in pencil on the verso, "Marie Stover" of Williamsport, may be the model. |
