"The Cliché-Verre series (1982-83) was an attempt to combine handwork and drawing with photographic imagery and still produce roughly identical multiples of an image.

The prints, split-toned in selenium, were made from negatives which had been variously scratched, inked, burned, cut up and glued onto other negatives." (Karl Baden, May 18, 2007)

There are reports from the nineteenth century of the Burry Man appearing in other Scottish locations when the fishing harvest was failing. The twentieth century Burry Man makes his perambulations of the town boundary on the date preceding the annual Ferry Fair. It is thought that this was once a fishing fertility rite, although these days it is associated with the local borough or burgh. The fair has been in existence since 1687, and now takes place during the second week in August. By 1971 nothing of what was once an eight day fair remained save the road race, run for a traditional pair of black boots.

Rare and curious objects, these portrait photo collages were inspired by Dada and Surrealism. Stepßn used decals, paper, objects and string to add new meaning and humor to the rather conventional cabinet portraits of the late 19th century. These are prime examples of Stepßn's surreal and fantasy-filled work.

Genthe's autobiography As I Remember, published in 1936 was reprinted at least twice. Defining “the concept of “Photographic Mask”, Genthe sought to go beyond the “surface record” or “commonplace record of clothes and a photographic mask”, in an attempt to capture with the camera more of a human being's essence.
